Why Should You Buy an OEM Oxygen Sensor?

OEM Oxygen sensors are specifically designed for your car. While many cars use the same oxygen sensors, OEM oxygen sensors have the right wire harness for your car. This eliminates the need for cutting and splicing wires. This also eliminates possible electric problems, shorts and ECM/ECU damage caused by improper wiring. Another great reason to go with OEM O2 sensors is because it keeps you from accidentally buying the wrong part and wasting money on multiple unecessary purchases.

If you want an easy install, then OEM sensors are the way to go. That being said, if you know exactly what you need and don't mind doing a little splicing, then universal sensors work great and can save you a ton of money. It's not uncommon to save up to 80% on a universal sensor vs OEM. Remember, that universal type sensors will not typically have a harness that will fit your car, you can cut the harness off your existing sensor and splice to the new one.

How Do Oxygen Sensors Work?



Essentially, all an oxygen sensor does is measure the amount of oxygen that is left after combustion. This information is sent to the car's ECU/ECM by varying the output voltage. The ECU/ECM then determines the amount of fuel that is to be injected for the next combustion cycle and this repeats its self over and over again. A faulty or dirty O2 sensor no longer has the ability to measure the left over oxygen accurately. Usually, it reads less oxygen than is actually present. The ECM/ECU interprets this as what is called a lean burn and injects more fuel than is needed. The end result is a richer burn and wasted fuel. This decreases your MPG, lowers your horsepower, causes poor drivability and increases emmissions. You can dramatically increase your MPG , improve drivability, increase your horsepower and decrease your car's emmissions by changing your O2 sensor. Remember that most cars have at least 2 oxygen sensors.
